In March I bought a 1988 Nissan 18 HP NS18C2. I had a couple of snags down the road with it mainly getting the lower unit off. I've painted the whole lower unit perfectly and cleaned it inside out [except for the gear housing didn't want to mess around in their, found that out on a previous motor]
:focus: The outboard still has its original prop on it. While cleaning and prepping the prop for paint i noticed the hub had some dry rotted rubber on the end of it but it did not look like the hub was spun. Now I've spun a couple of hubs on my Mercruiser and force 9.9 before and i can tell by two obvious signs. 1. the boat wont go fast and the rpms go very high. 2. while removing the prop i look at the hub and i can tell the hub slipped cause of the rubber being frayed up.[kinda hard to explain]
since I have not put my boat in the water yet should i get the prop re-hubed? or should i buy a new one for $80?

finding parts for this motor has been hard and expensive so i don't know if any local marinas have the hub i need.

Re: hub might be spun

Prop hubs are not eternal, worst being a 26 year oldie engine, go for a new prop, hubs are vulcanized. Difficult to repair unless prop shop has the means to vulcanize a new hub on an old prop.

Happy Boating
