Hubcaps for my trailer

I have a 1976 arrowglass boat. the trailer that came with it seems to be the original trailer.

It only has one hubcap. I kind of like it. it's retro, and I'd like to keep with the style.

I tried a google search, and most everything that comes up is by CAR or TRUCK. I tried JC whitney, and nothing close there

anyone have any suggestions where to look?

It's too dark right now, but tomorrow I will try to post up a picture.

Quick description. they are 14" rims and the hubcap just goes ove the center of the rim, so they are about 8 to 10" wide. aluminum. with a simple blue stripe. no markings just simple.

Thanks for any input.

Sounds like baby moon hubcaps.
One problem with full coverage hubcaps on boat trailers is that you cant easily check hub temps with your hand or see other problems like the hubs grease cap fell off nor can you access the bearing buddy.
Plus they will be slow to drain water after being dinked at the ramp.

But if tou still want the hubcaps, go for it. Might buy aftermarket stainless steel moons and use them.

Thanks for those. Pretty close. and it may be what I end up going with.

Here is that picture I promised... they just fit the boat, they are kind of cylindrical with a flat top. for lack of a better description. NOT rounded like a moon cap.

Ok they look like an old 1950's bell hop hat for shape.. does that describe them bettr?

That's an old style hub cap. That's what used the be std. equipment on most cars, with a full "wheel cover" as the option.

Go to any junk yard and they should have piles of them laying around. Last time I bought one it cost 2 bucks.

When I was growing up my dads boat had hubcaps on it but the center was cut out(factory) to allow access to bearings, similar to yours but with a 2-3 inch hole in the middle.

They may look "retro", but that hub cap will trap water and keep your bearings wet. You will have bearing problems and corrosion of the wheels and bearing covers. Plus, you will have to remove them each time you check your bearings.

Now if you don't mind removing them before launching your boat and waiting for the wheels to dry before reinstalling them, go for it.

If it were me, I would remove the other one and forget about it. Next time you're at the local boat ramp, count the trailers with hub caps. There's a reason.

I have never seen a water tight hub cap. Ever. Held on with spring clips. Especially with any degree of centrifigual motion water won't be there a 1/4 mile later. I can't see this as an issue. Yep you'd have to take them off to check the bearings, but if you're the guy that wants hub caps on your boat in the first place, no big deal. To each his own.

If you go with the hubcaps like in the pic, you need to add stainless steel trim rings!

I had not noticed, I'll have to look for that.

I can't see them holding water there are holes through the rim behind the hubcaps...
Besides I just did all new bearings and seals. Packed it full as I felt safe with marine grease. whats it take to pull a hubcap every once in a while.

look like old dodge van hub caps

Thanks, I will look that direction see what I find.

It looks like you have a customized Tigre or possibly Cheetah. The Tigre is longer.

See if you see it in this link http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/wIqVTM...0pwLn6ZJzpu9Apg/1975 Arrow Glass Brochure.pdf

Look in the photo's section of the yahoo Arrow Glass site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Arrow_Glass_Boats/

The site is moderated by former employee and owner's son.

Mike

Thanks Could not get the link (pdf) to open, but the yahoo groups had this...

It was in the photo section of the yahoo group mentioned in the above posts.

I had NO idea what I had.. that picture made my day. now I know what it is.. and it's a little different than anything else out there. :D

I like the headline on the add "we heard you were looking for something sporty" that's awesome.. I totally need to fix the windows so they are at least close to stock. and I LOVE the "convertible" top.. I gotta take it to my friend that's an upholsterer, and see if we can reproduce it!

I looked on the Yahoo site and couldn't find that brochure. Where on the site did you find it? I thought I knew were everything was.

James on the site, moderator, has some of the original glass. Post a message about windows and see if he responds.

There have been several AG posts on this site. Might find it interesting to do an Arrow Glass and Arrowglass search in iboats.
