Re: Huge Bluegill

Not only would I weigh it, I'd check its radiation level with a geiger counter. That fish just aint natural. LOL

Seriously, congrats to the guy that caught that one. That's gotta feel good.

We do a lot of fishing for bluegill here in Tennessee but I've never ever seen one that size. Around here we say that bluegill are bigger than shrimp and taste better too.

And just look at his face! Says it all right there. I would have had to weigh it also.

Re: Huge Bluegill

They never measured it at all. Its a shame, becasue I really think it could have been a state record.

Re: Huge Bluegill

Bob, are you familuar with the "Georgia Giant" Hybrid Blue gill????
This appears very much like that, and these have been known to top 5lbs.
Problem is, they revert back after the first generation with the Bluegill having a stronger gene. The first stocking will be the biggest with 2 yrs following of "Unusual size" bluegill, but by the third year, they rarely exceed a pound.
Those interested, Google "Georgia Giant"....that should bring it up.
I've worked with over 20 fisheries biologists in the last 6 or 7 years, and none have a clue as to the breeding of this fish...It's a hatchery secret!
Here's the proper link.
http://www.kens-fishfarm.com/bream-history.asp

Re: Huge Bluegill

I have a friend who has stocked hybrid bluegill in one of his ponds, they are huge like this guy. I suspect that this is a picture of a hybrid.
