I just recently bought a "new to me" boat. The boat had been sitting for a couple years and needed a little work. I have all the engine work done and took it out yesterday and it ran great!!!!

Now its time to clean it up good. I have things to clean the interior. What is a good cleaner and wax for the outside of the boat. It is a little faded but not horrible. I can not afford to have it professionally gel coated again. I also need to know what will work to loosen the hard stans on the bottom of the boat.

I have a 21' rinker so its fiberglass.

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Hull Cleaning

Depends on how bad the oxidation is. I would try 3M restorer wax, and follow the directions if that doesn't work then you have a little bit of work ahead of you, wet sand then buff then wax.

You are probably going to want to get a buffer of some kind 21 is a good size boat to do without a couple extra arms.

Re: Hull Cleaning

I used atwood cleaner wax with a BIG buffer (damn thing will wear your arms out haha) went over it twice with the cleaner wax then followed up with atwoods wax 2 coats. I have a red hull so oxidation was really bad but with the atwood it took out all the oxidation and stains she looks brand spankin new. using a good buffer and pad makes a whole lot of difference, it really scrubs the old wax out and polishes real nice :)

Yep, 3M or Maguires wax/color restorer work well. The boat gets a lot bigger when you start waxing. Bribe a friend or kid to help.

Re: Hull Cleaning

It sure does get alot bigger when you wax. took me damn near all day to do my boat and I was slam wore out after that. Then on top of that the next day my neighbor was so impressed on how my boat turned out he asked me to do his boat. Of course I had to charge a case a beer :)

Re: Hull Cleaning

i had a 17 foot bow rider and i waxd it a few times not a big deal i jumpd up to a 23 foot sundowner let me tell you......... after about a 3-4 foot square you will probably take a break. then if you finnish 1 side you probably wont do both, if your by yourself in one day. if you have a lot of white on the under side of hull that your cleaning try 2 cups bleach 3-4 gallons of water and 1/4- 1/2 cup of dish soap then use a spong or brush. after you aply it let it sit on for a few minuites to get that bleach to clean off that growed on crap. make sure to spray it down till you dont see any suddz that will tell you that you got all the bleach and soap off then wax it up a few times. it should be in your best intrest to at least get 1 coat of wax on after you wash it that way because the soap and bleach will dry out the hull after a day and it will make your waxing towel or buffer really dirty

also that mixture works nice on vinal house siding to get rid of the mold, and brown water spots off gutters. but read 2 days ago people use 1/3rd white vinagar with 2/3 water to keep the boat clean as well, not sure how well it works.
