Hull "flexing" too much?

I have a 1972 Grady white fiberglass hull that seems to take on water when the water is choppy or rough. I am wondering if the hull is flexing in the rough water and allowing water to get in through a small crack somewhere? I am positive that its not coming in any where else and it only happens like when I go into the wind on choppy water  . I am not talking about a lot of water but I still don't like to see any water at all. I have noticed one small "stress" crack in the past and patched it with marine tex. Anyone have any ideas? Should I be woried about the integrity of the Hull? Thanks for any input.

Re: Hull "flexing" too much?

Any unexplained water is not good, IS spray coming up to rub rail/deck joint area, rail should be sealed top&bottom! double check all though hulls One easy way of finding cracks is to use water colors(kids stuff) pour some on a rag a wipe the hull then rub off excess, any cracks will be highlighted, but most cracks are just stresscracks in the gelcoat, don't go all the way though the layup, last look for any uneven spots (impressions, hooks) when on the trailer, if bottom is not true, you may have a rot problem?, but Rot normaly just means you'll have an untrue bottom not leaks? Good Luck Keep us posted

Re: Hull "flexing" too much?

I will have to get under this weekend to double check the hull. I have put 3m 5200 on the bottom of the rail rub joint. I didn't think about the top Jomac. Thanks for the suggestion. I will try that as well. If I do have another stress crack, whats the best way to stop it. I have heard you should drill a small hole at the end of the crack and plug it with a piece of wood? Then marine tex. The thought of drilling in the bottom scares me

Another question, If my boat was made in 72, do you think I have flotation foam material (not sure when they started using it)? If so, could it have been soaked from the water coming in? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help.
