So I know I'm probably going about this totally backwards but... I have a 383 that I'm finishing very soon. It was built as a marine motor but I don't have the boat for it yet. I was thinking I could find a good boat with a bad motor and plop it in there. Should I start with a v8 boat or can I use a nice boat with a 4.3 and then sell the running 4.3? Too much work? What hulls should I be on the lookout for? I'd like to find a hull with a good drive that I can dump the engine in and roll. Is it too much for an alpha? If this gets to complicated/expensive I may just buy a $1500 f body and switch cam.

Hi there, You would be better off finding a boat that has a V8 for two reasons, One is, setting the engine in will be a lot easier due to where the front motor mount's will line up due to engine length between the two engines (Less modifications = less $$$) and second, The gear ratio should be a much better match for the V8 engine or you may end up having a thread such as this one, http://forums.iboats.com/mercruiser...-350-mpi-not-producing-full-power-615994.html:D

Good luck.:)

Re: hull for my 6.2l

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'll be looking for a good deal on a v8 boat. It just seams that if I find a boat I like(20ish foot openbow) with a blown v8 the boat is beat to hell. Getting a v6 boat would greatly expand my options but oh well. Any suggestions for a nice fast hull in my configuration?
