I recently purchases a Grumman 17' square stern canoe at an auction. I would like to register it, but I am unsure what the "hull number" is for the canoe. I can find two numbers that I figure could be the hull number. One is on the front cap on the top front of the canoe and one is near the back on the upper outside.
Which of the two would be considered the "HULL Number".

Yep ^^^ if the boat was built after 1972. Otherwise, if built pre Nov 1972, it might be a serial number, not a HIN

The pix is too small and blurry, but I think the 2nd pix you posted is the HIN tag, if its a post 1972 canoe. The long skinny 1 near the square stern (aft, back, rear), not the oval near the bow (front).

Lost a clearer pix of the stern tag.

Run that # here:

Roffey: If you click on the photos, they should expand plenty for you to see them.

Nope, the image opens as an attachment the same size as whats posted.on the screen of my cell w out opening the attachment. Too small and blurry. Enlarging them once opened, only makes them even blurrier.

You have a Photobucket account, try Option 3. Your pics are too small.

BTW - You have 1974 Grumman. If you don't use a motor, including a trolling motor, registration is not needed in most states.

OK, I tried photobucket and it cut off my URL. I have tried several methods and just get thumnails. I will have to research this some more..

But thanks GA Boater for the great information. I knew it was 1973 or 1974 but I couldn't remember which. Also, if the boat is over 16' and you use a motor of any kind (electric trolling motors included), you have to register it in Wisconsin.

MOD EDIT - Leave politics out of this discussion.

That was easy. Thanks.

The oval plate is probably the Grumman model number. Use the HIN to register the canoe.

I did, but he wasn't talking. I think he has been out of the water a bit too long.
