Re: Hull protection
I have had an ultrasonic unit on my 36ft. Seahawk for the past 12 months. I keep the boat down in South Florida. I was talked into it by a friend that had the same unit in NY. My biggest concern was that it wouldn't do anything other than look good. The part that made me go for it was that they guaranteed the results for 90 days or I would get my money back. I'm a diver so I figured I could keep a close eye on it. They also installed it. So for $1500 it seemed like a good idea if it worked. So far it's been doing what they said it would. Part of me was hoping it would fail just to see if I would get my money back. My hull had a new coat of ablating paint put on it a few weeks before I had it installed. Before I would dive my hull every month and scrub it. Especially my props always needed to be cleaned before each trip. I'm hoping that because I haven't touched the hull that my paint should be good for a few seasons. It does leave a slight film of dead algae on the bottom. At first I thought it wasn't working but I realized that it was dead algae. After running the boat it came off. I'll keep an eye on it for the next 6 months, but basically it's already paid for itself in hull cleanings and I'm not pulling the boat for a new coat of paint this year.
