Re: hull rating

You bet your insurance company will have a problem with this -- especially if you have an accident. Whatever you own will likely belong to someone else when all said & done. There is a reason hulls are rated for maximum HP. Your safety, the safety of those with you, and the safety of those who share the waterways.

Mine the same way. Not only do they want to know the BIA cert value, they want to know what's on it. Matter of fact, my agent takes pictures of all my stuff and personally checks the plate and engine on boats.

Mark

Not to overlook an obvious soultion, but why not simply change to an insurance carrier who will insure your boat? Many do insure overpowered boats for a small fee.

Just because it's insured, doesn't protect you from a lawsuit -- especially here in these Sue-Nited States. Even though you have an umbrella policy with a personal liability rider as part of your homeowners insurance you would likely be viewed negligent in court. It simply isn't worth it unless of course you own nothing to start with.

Re: hull rating

Don't trade it. Sell it outright. Then buy the 115. Dealers buy wholesale and sell retail. You have a good product, take the profit the dealer would normally take -- just maybe a little less. Better in your pocket than theirs.

I'm not suggesting you run uninsured. Insurance protects the boat, motor, trailer, and you for liability. However, even if you did get insurance, they may not pay if you falsely represented the boat/motor size. Fraud and negligence is what leaves you open to lawsuit in an accident. The owning nothing was said "tongue-in-cheek" but of course you couldn't know that!
