Humminbird 561DI backlight won't stay on

I've had my humminbird fish finder for 3 years now and it works great. Except for the backlight, it won't stay on! It turns on when I push buttons but it dims away as soon as I stop. Anyone know how to keep it on? I've been going out at night lately so I need to know the depth.

Have you tried pushing the power/light button after the unit turns on to see if it'll stay on? I just looked through the manual and there doesn't appear to be a adjustable timer on that unit. Bill
