I have a Garmin GPSmap 182 and the boat has a puck type hummingbird transducer (no fish finder unit) Can I interconnet the two two get a depth reading on my GPS?

The transducer has red and black wires which I assume are the positive and gorund leads. It also has orange, purple, brown, yellow and bare leads.

Thanks

A.C.

The GPS does not have the electronics to either "ping" the transducer or to process the echo. So the answer would be no.

But if he bought a GSD20, could the Humminbird transducer interface with it?

No -- It works only with the 2006 and 2010. It's also $250 to $350 depending on where you shop. Why not just buy a system that you know will work without resorting to the black box.

The GPS182 supports the GSD20. What I don't know is if the GSD20 will support his transducer.
