Archery season oppened here saturday. I had not been out till this evening. Things were not at there finest round the house so I grabed a cup of joe and told the wife I was gonna go glass some deer. Got out there and glassed for a few minutes and thought shucks aint nothing gonna happen from this truck.

Decided to take a short quiet walk (mind you Im in street clothes white shirt etc) Flushed a couple grouse whatched a red Squirrel chase a big grey squirrel, and noticed an old tree stand along the trail that apperantly had not been hunted in several years that just happened to overlook a small lake with the setting sun. Crawled up to enjoy the view and after about ten minnutes along comes a doe and two fawns. At about twenty five yards she senses me and proceeds with extreme caution and patientce to within 6 yds before she decides to exit stage left. When I got back to the truck the coffee was only warm but somehow much more satisfying.

Ahh...all is well with the world...Fall is such a wonderful time of year!

You hunters understand. The next three months are heaven.

Ya' know....there's a lot to be said for your post neumanns.....me and my dad used to go deer hunting every year. We'd take his motor home and one of our buds would go and we would really have a good time. I really just like the days after the "buck fever" wore off, of just being able to just sit in the woods and watch "stuff" happen.

Fell asleep one time against a log. Warm day and it was in the afternoon. Just closed my eyes for a minute....right. Kinda woke up and had a little friend setting there looking at me. Red Squirrel. Just looking. That always stuck with me. Really miss that. Pop don't get around like he used to and with the shop and all we just limit ourselves to a couple fishin' trips a year. But I do miss the woods.

Amen to that neumanns.

Our season starts October 1st, and I can't wait.

After 25 years of bowhunting, I still get a huge rush everytime I hear a twig snap, then see a glimpse of movement, and then finally see that elusive buck step out in the open........................WHOA.......Thump.......sorry, I just fell out of my treestand.

AAAhhhh, the sweat smell of decaying leaves, cool, crisp air, and big racks! Gotta love it! (Shucks, gotta love the little racks and the no racks too!)

Got 2 of my 3 doe permits last week, plus the buck tag. Lots of meat in the freezer this year, and lots of fun - hopefully if I can find the time with building the new house.

Re: Hunting: Bad day turned good.

Our hunting in Oregon has gone to H-ell here.
They are increasing our tags again, as well as way too many hunters. Fee after fee and not much opportunity to hunt without getting crowded.

I still try to get the kids and I out when I can.
I'll probably have to take out a second mortgage next year to afford the license and tags.

I've had numerous times in the woods when you se that one animal do something or other that just makes time stand still. That's what I like to see.

Many times I've had close encounters when the deer didn't even know I was there.

It's that instant in life when you appreciate you're alive.

H.
