Heres my situation pulled my 1992 bayliner just before sandy hit down at the jersey shore. My boat survived the problem is now my house has no water or power so I can winterize the motor. The street are lined with trash so I cant get the boat off site to winterize.

Question : What am I risking by not winterizing until possibly january? Its a 92 force outboard motor.

What will I have to do in the spring to remediate any problems caused by this winterization delay.

As always thanks for the info!

If it is a 2stroke you probably are ok, if it is a 4stroke , I would load the cyls with oil .you cannot start it without water so you can't fog it. someone else will chime in with more advise. take care & Good luck you deserve it.

Re: Hurricane Sandy: Unable to winterize

If you can remove the sparkplugs and spray some fogging oil into the cylinders, great.

If not, don't worry about it.

2 main concerns.

#1, make sure there is no water in the lower unit/gearcase.
Remove the drain screw and let some flow out.
If water comes out, or milky lube, drain it and fill with fresh lube.
If you leave water in the gearcase, it WILL freeze and crack the case.
If it flows clean, then replace the screw.

#2, Get some Sta-bil or Seafoam into the fuel tank to help preserve the fuel.

Lower the motor all the way down, remove the battery, done till spring.

Sorry for all you are going thru.
