I currently run the old Hustler prop system. I use a 12 1/4 x 15* aluminum prop on the 40 hp on my runabout. Top speed is about 30mph with no load, 27-28 loaded, RPM is 5000 on the nose.

As you probably know, the old Hustler is being phased out in favor of the new Hustler design. The problem I have is the cost went from about $40 for the old prop housing to $72 for the new design housing. Plus $22.85 for a new hub.

The Michigan Match is only $42.99 for the whole prop, hub and all. And the Michigan Vortex w/hub is $64, and $48 for replacment prop housing.

The Solas is $76. for the whole prop.

High performance is not really an issue. Operating cost, smooth running and good fuel economy are more important than top speed.

Has anyone used the new Hustler, Michigan or Solas props on a small boat like mine? Are you happy?

Re: Hustler vs Hustler vs Michigan Match vs Solas

FYI, the Vortex is Basically the same blade design as the Michigan match (with hub factory installed),for your application... the vortex is for use with replacable hub (flo-torqII) for all applications, but the blade design stays the same, and the michigan match has blade designs unique to OEM props. I've used quite a few different props on the small case 70 merc (same as 40) on my 17ft flat-bottom tracker, and I don't really notice alot of difference on that boat. Yours is more of a "V", so it may react differently...sorry I can't be of more help on that..... :)
