Hiya folks,

I have just acquired a hutchinson nautilus sportyak 60, a 10' blow-up toy that I know is ancient but is in remarkably good condition. Other than a small leak in one pontoon the only problem I face is with the ratings info. The ratings tag on the transom is a decal and half of it has gone missing. I can discern capacities for 4 persons and 800 lbs but the max horsepower is nowhere to be found. I would surely appreciate it if anyone could offer some help on this so that I may bring this fine vessel to the sea once again.

Thanx,

George

Welcome to the forums,

Can you post a pic to check the beast. Never heard of that brand.

Happy Boating.

Got a few pics on here. It's my first attempt so we'll see if it actually worked.

I also made a mistake on the name. It's a speedyak not a sportyak.

The info I have been able to glean so far indicates that hutchinson was a french company that was bought out in the mid seventies. That would explain the dearth of information and the silly name.

Thanx

How large would that sib be 12" (3.80) if so, 15 minimum to 20 HP should work fine, the largest extended rear tubes that have seen.

This fine vessel is 10' oal with a 4'-4" beam, and that transom is far enough forward to give the tubes some serious leverage against a flip-over under hard acceleration. It also has wooden floorboards and a wooden keel which are not to be seen in the pics. I managed to dig up some info on the next larger 12' model which is rated for 35 horse max so I would imagine 20 horse would be no problem. But with only 2 air chambers to rely upon I would be reluctant to hang a heavy motor on it. One leak and I would be the proud owner of a very pricey sea anchor.

Thanx for the comeback.
