Hello,
Just picked up a Hy-Ryder fishing boat that was manufactured in Tomahawk Wisconsin but I can't seem to find any info anywhere on the net about this boat or the Company.

This is a 14' glass tri-hull that looks like the old Tuffy's, Lunds and Shell Lakes tri-hulls with a rounded bow. There is a number on the transom but no manf. or Coast Guard Certificate label. The local marine dealer told me the last two numbers in the hull should be the year of manf. which would be 79.

Anyone know anything about this boat? Wieght limits, hp limits? Thanks for any help available.

Kevin

Re: Hy-Ryder boats?

I had one of those many years ago powered by a 60 HP Johnson. Good boat, but heavy for it's size. Prone to floor and transom rot. Like most tri-hulls, it was a stable boat but a very harsh ride on rough water heading into the waves. The company has been out of business for years. As I remember the model I had was rated for a 75 HP motor. Here's a 1977 with a 70 HP.

Re: Hy-Ryder boats?

I'll try to attach a picture.
This model is actually 13.5 LOA and 56" beam. Weight, unknown but 2 people can pick it up. Don't think I'd want to put much more than a 35hp on it if even that.

Sorry picture wont d/l, files to big atm. Will try and redo the picture and post it.

If two people can pick the boat up, a 35hp will make it fly pretty well, and is probably its maximum HP, based on the size and weight. It also means you probably don't have a bunch of waterlogged foam in there.

Do post the photos. We'll be able to tell more from those.

Re: Hy-Ryder boats?

After 2 years of working to get a clean registration it has finally happened and I can now finally get started on this little gem.

Word of warning to anyone wo's considering buying a bout w/o a clean title in hand. DON'T DO IT!

Anyways, got it moved out today to where I can start work and cleaned up after 2 years of sitting upside down. It was pretty dirty.

Plan is to start on the outside 1st and clean up all the chips and checking in the glass to prep for paint befor turning it over to do the inside repair work.
Have a number of questions that I hope all you glass experts can help with. Most of the small chips I plan to repair with Marine Tex or some type of filler. There are a number of spots that have some cracking/checking that I am not certain of the best way to repair them and also along the keel in the bow there is an area that all the gel coat is worn off from what looks like continual beaching.

Will try to get a lot of pictures of the areas posted by tomorrow along with the questions I have. Now let's have fun!
