I have an 85hp Johnson 1973 mod. that I want to remove the two hydraulic cyls located underneath the motor. The reason being is I also have another 85hp with a manual operated trim system, I think all that I have to do is swap the hyd. cyls to be able to raise the motor up and down. From my observation it looks like the motor will have to come off the boats to do this swap. Any suggestions.

Re: hydraulic cyls

yeah, it would be easier to do with the motor off your boat, prepare for some hard work getting the bolts out too, I have just done it and its a nightmare.

you will need to swap more then the rams themselves as well, you need to swap the lock down lock up tabs and stuff as well, the tilt motor unlocks your motor in the one already setup for it, the other one has a manual lever for it just below the steering arm... if you don't swap them over you will damage something the first time you try to raise the motor with the lock bracket down.

Its hard work what you want to do, those bolts havn't been off in 30 years and they were tight to start with.

rgds

Frank
