I have a sea star hydrauic helm with a fluid leak around the shaft. I pulled the cap with the 3 screws and located the o-ring. I cant seem to find that replacement o-ring online though. I found them on ebay for a 1" shaft but mine is 3/4" and i cant find any model #'s on my helm. Called a local marina and they claim its not rebuildable/repairable and quoted me at $550 for a new one. What are my options besides a new one @ $550? Ive found a few other replacemnt hydrlc helms on ebay, but were non-teleflex. are they interchangable?? I'm hoping to get this fixed ASAP. i'd appreciate any help.thanks!

I believe the shaft seal is part number 225226 but my supplier says that they are not available individually any more. The seal kit including the shaft seal is Teleflex HS-5176. The part number for the 1" shaft seal kit is HS-5151.

Am I reading it right...your unit needs a replacement O-ring and the shop says you need to buy an entire unit??
Bring the O-ring with you and check with a hydraulic or tractor shop. I'm sure they can match it.

Re: hydraulic steering helms interchangable?

the problem is that its a special type of o-ring. brought it to a shop and they had a special name for it, but didnt have it. your right "cruiser" they dont stock just the shaft rings anymore.
And yes you read me right. the marina prob wont make enough money on me by just selling an o-ring so theyre trying to sell me a whole new unit. you gotta watch out for people like that. if it wasnt for sites like iboats, i prob would have bought the new unit @ 550 instead of the .75 cent part that i need.
anyways i may have found the part on ebay but i need to make sure its for 3/4" tapered shaft and not 1"
thanks!
