I have a 1993 mercury40 hp oil injected outboard motor I am trying to remove my hydraulic tilt or trim (whatever its called) to get it rebuilt. I have removed all the bolts that hold pump and hydraulic arm to the boat but I cant figure out how to slide the 1/2 dowel to disconnect the arm from the motor. it looks like there is a locking pin holding the dowel in place. how do I remove the lock pin I cant get a good grip on it with my wrench. I also tried using a screw driver and a hammer to tap it out. but that didn't work either. any help would be greatly appreciated.

1: The manual shows using something like a long chisel or screwdriver to drive DOWN on the dowel pin. The pin has a head on it and straight Knurl for the 1st 3/8" or so.Maybe try using a sharp screwdriver between the head of the pin and the bracket. It should be easier after it starts moving. 2: Then use a punch to knock the pivot pin towards the side with the dowel. For the bottom pivot pin use a punch to drive UP on the lower dowel then knock out the pivot pin the same way. Hope this helps.
