Hydraulic Trim Motor Solenoid is it BAD???

On my 1976 Reinell 20ft, Mercruiser 888 w/Ford 302, I'm able to lower the stern drive but will not come up, all I can hear is the solenoid clinking.<br />I've put a multimeter no power on the engage side, but when the bypass the solenoid by shorting the hot wire to the other wire it works. Is that mean the solenoid is bad and how must is it?

It would help to know the specific make, model, and year of the motor we are talking about.<br />Yes, it sounds like the selenoid is bad. Switch the 2 selenoids and see if that reverses your problem. Most of these selenoids are a standard automotive type, and only cost a couple bucks.
