I have an 8 HP yamaha, and This winter my family decided to moved the motor when i was not there. And they layed it on the wrong side. Why do they make you lay it on the side the arm is on? It's counter intuitive. They laid it on the other side, because they didn't want to lay it on the arm. but that is the exact WRONG thing to do. The engine oil leaks out the dipstick, and into the engine cylinders.

I already did this once, and I had to pull the spark plugs, and turn the engine upside down, and eventually I got enough oil out of it, to where it would turn over.

Is there a simpler way to do this? I already got the motor on the boat, and I really don't feel like tilting this thing upside down, to get the oil out. And won't more oil just leak into the engine when i tilt it upside down?

What a price to pay just for laying the thing down on the wrong side!

pull plug and then turn motor over forcing oil out through plug hole

I would like to know why they decided to put the dip stick on the same side as the throttle arm.
Laying it down on the arm just feels like your gonna break something. It is just *** backwards.

You need to talk to the Yamaha engineers.
I do not like laying motors down anyway, always set up a rail to mount them on upright

i bet having oil inside the cylinders would help preserve the motor over the winter. make sure that no rust gets inside there.

It worked, as soon as i pulled the upper plug, tons of oil came running out. The after a few pulls, it would turn over with the plugs back in.
I even had oil inside the carb. I drained that, and sprayed wd-40 into the carb to start it. Then it ran fine.
