I know this is not really a prop question but I hope you guys can help me out.

I just restored and old ski boat, it doesn't have one of those hydofins. When I go on WOT the boat takes a while to plane out and it runs very inclined.

1. Will one of these level the boat out?
2. Will it improve acceleration?
3. Will it improve any wakeboarding preformance?
4. Will it improve top speed?

I am a noob, sorry.

I bought one, I plane about 5mph lower, that is really all it did for me. I see it as a good investment since I have a 1 year old and would like to keep the speed low while he is aboard.

Re: hydrofin above prop

I am in the process of getting my boat set up properly so I am trying different things.
I bought my boat used and it had one on it. I took it off to see what difference it made and without it my boat does not plane as fast without more throttle and porpoises terribly. With it on it planes nice and stays nice and straight at WOT with no bouncing, but I also lost 5-6 mph with it on. It deffinately works on my boat, but I in search of the real problem to see if I can cure it without the fin.

The fin can be an inexpensive cure but its a bandage over a problem.
A 4 blade prop will get you on plane faster, stay on plane with less power, respond better at low speeds, the motor can be set higher (not trim) with less ventilation(cavitation) problems, and is generally smoother.
Another better cure is something like smart tabs.again solves all those problems plus improve no wake speed wander some boats suffer from.

What kind if engine and or drive are we talking about. Hydrofoils work better on OB applications.
