Hello every body! I want to know if the Stingray Stabilizer makes the boat run slower our lose horse power, I'm talking about the hydrofoil that goes on the bottom of the out board by the prop :D so the boat does not lift its front. I have one installed on my outboard and was thinking of taking it off to see if the boat would run better with out it. Thanks for your help!!

Re: hydrofoil Stingray Stabilizer

My Stingray takes of 2-4 miles an hour off top end. However, I love it for tubing and skiing and wouldn't be without it! It planes in 1/3 the time and the nose of the boat doesn't go skyward!...also much better cornering with hardly any lean.

Your actual experience on top end may be different. If your hydrofoil isn't too deep below the boat's bottom, speed should not be affected. I have an inboard, so I can't play with motor height to get it just right.

My uncle installed one some years back off an 18 hp Merc outboard on a 14 ft. aluminum boat and it did wonders...actually increased speed and overall stability of the boat.

In the end, it's just four screws. Give it a try with and without.

Re: hydrofoil Stingray Stabilizer

There are a zillion posts on this and lots of good info. Cobra is absolutly correct. If your boat slows down with it on, the motor is too low for that set up.

The fin is a tool. It allows you to raise the motor to decrease drag. This increases overall performance. The larger the fin, the higher you can raise the motor -- generally speaking.

Good luck!
