I am running a 70hp on a 17' aluminum. It set up for fishing (2 batteries, 25 gallon bait tank, 24 gal fuel tank. heres my question. I can currently hit 32 mph (14X17 prop) i want to be able to get up on plane and run at about 18 mph. will a hydrofoil/dolphin fin what ever there called help with that? Is is true if you get a little air you can snap the cav plates off the lower unit? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks
scott

I have the stingray hydrofoil. Yes, it will plane the boat at much less speed. You may loose a little speed on your top end, but get a much stabler ride and quicker less slanted turns.

Tin can, The stingray is one of a few great hydrofoils, and I recomend it. I'm running 3 of them on different boats, and I CAN tell you if you loose top-end with the foil, the engine is not at the correct heighth on the transom.
dhadley got me straightened out on mine, and I actually GAINED about 3 MPH on my Starcraft. :)

Tin Can
I think the sting ray foil is the answer to what you are looking for. I've been using them for years and have never been disappointed. Good Luck.
