Re: hydrulic leak in steering at the helm
I had to replace one in October. I just shot an E-Mail out to Teleflex and they sent me one ... free.

Pull the wheel, which usually isn't at all hard to do. Do not go banging on the nut or shaft with a hammer. Also, because there are rarely any threaded holes in the hub of a boat's steering wheel you won't be able to use a conventional steering wheel puller, but most gear pullers will work just fine. Actually you can usually just pull by hand while you rap the steering wheel's hub slightly from the side with a small hammer, but once again, don't bang on that nut or shaft in such a way as to direct the force into the helm unit. Once the wheel is off you will see a cap over the steering shaft that is held in place with 3 screws. Remove the screws and small plate and the seal will be under it. Take a pocket knife and pry it out. The seal has a 1" inside diameter and it is square, about 1/8". As a temporary fix you can sometimes just take it out, flip it over, and put it back in. It won't last but if can save a weekend sometimes.

Thom
