First off I searched in forums and couldn't comeup with any helpful info on the Hyfong brand and I was wondering if it would be a good match for the Mariner?

Hyfong outboard motors??? - TinBoats.net

on top of these replies, I've don't a ton of research on these Chinese outboards. Asides from them being filthy dirty for the water you're in, owners have a hell of a time getting any appropriate service on these. I'd recommend doing some craigslist/ebay searching and find a know namebrand.....I just passed on a 2.5hp mercury for $250 on craigslist but was heavily considering it!

They are not so good clones of older Yamaha designs, no serial numbers so they are not legal in titled states. IMO, you can find older Evinrudes, Mercurys and 2 stroke Tohatsu's for the same money and have a better machine

Stay away from that cheap Chinese junk! I have heard horror stories about them. Look for a 3.5 Nissan/tohatsu mercury/mariner or Johnson/evinrude. If you can get Honda or Yamaha then get that but I feel they are over priced
