Hynautic steering helm making noise after rebuild

Hi guys I just got finished re-sealing my hynautic helm and added fresh ATF fluid (ATF is what the previous owner used to I just decided to stick with it) well the new seals solved my issue there is no leaks and the steering is very responsive , but when I turn my wheel is makes a noise and you can hear the bearings moving it seems harder to steer then it did before the rebuild and before it did not make the noise.
Has anybody had a similar problem or noise coming from the helm?

Also I was thinking if used the hynautic fluid instead of ATF it may make a difference?

my first thought is that you got something wrong inside... whenever a problem arrises immediately after working on something 99% of the time it is something that was done wrong.

Agreed with the above comments, also you should be using sea star steering oil, unless ATF is compatable to sea star?

Do you have air in the system? Air will make it noisy.

Thanks for your replys , I spun the wheel over 300 times so I figure if I did not put it together correctly a bearing would get caught up and not let the wheel spin.

I purged the system twice so I figure all the air is out.

About the fluid i read that ATF can be used but it will not be as smooth.

I guess I can pull it all apart and try again. But does anyone with a hynautic system get a noise when you spin the wheel it's not a grind noise it's more like a rachetty noise when you spin it fast.

Besides the noise how does it work?

It seems to be working fine it's very responsive and it's not leaking , also holding pressure well.

It's been a few years since I had mine... I don't remember any sound at all but I think I may remember a faint "notchy" feel to it... as if I could feel stages of the pump in it... Not at all sure tho .... If I'm remembering ritgh then I could imagine that what I was feeling COULD make a sound like you describe... I think you need to call sea star.

BTW yes atf is absolutely fine for that system.

The "notchy" feeling is a good way to explain it, but do you agree if I did not put the bearings together correctly the wheel would bind and not spin?

I think you are right on the money about calling sea star I'll do that tomorrow

I've never seen the inside of one... I'm just going on my own experience.... almost always... If you touch something and then you have a problem right away... whatever you touched IS the problem.

If it didn't do this before then you MUST have changed something...... might not be bearings tho. As far as I know it's the trans warp coils or the dilitheum crystals.

The system was not to complex it only goes together one way (I think).

Here's a link to the instructions I used with pictures if your interested
Hydraulic Helm Rebuild

I guess all I can do is tear it down and put it back together , it may make a difference.

are you SURE it didn't make the noise before? looking at the link it looks like it would make some noise if spun fast... I wish I had a better memory but I just don't recall if mine did or not.

It was making a slight noise before just not as noticeable , after reading those articles it kind of sounds like I may still have air in the like I'll try to purge the system again. Also I know that using ATF will make the steering harder I can deal with that if i can resolve this clicking noise.
