I have been looking for a replacement engine for my locked up 120hp mercruiser in my 1969 starcraft trihull, I have found a 170hp on local craigslist and I am curious if it will bolt in or not. But if I can get it cheap enough is it economical to do the swap and how hard will it be?
thanks for any help in advance,
Jermaweld

Hello Jermaweld, and :welcome: to iBoats....

Be very careful, that 170hp engine is likely to be the much despised '470' (4 cyl, 170hp).... Don't walk, run, away....

The best option for you is a 3.0l, 140hp... Plenty around, not too expensive, and way less dramas than a 470..

The 170 is likely a 470 like achris posted. It will not just bolt in. The drive ratio will be wrong also. Look for the 140/3.0l engine. The externals are the same and it will bolt up without having to change the drive ratio.

Thank you for your inputs, and I believe I will pass on the 170 and hold out for a 3.0L.
