I am looking into buying a 32"ft wellcraft coastal 1987, the boat has some rot in the upwrights that hold the fuel tanks. One thning that scares is that under the hatch in the galley there are some long cracks ,I cannot figure out in how they got there. pics attached, can anyone tell me if they used plywood or balsa above the ceiling on the fordeck as parts of the foredeck is soft . I have posted these questions on another site , but im sure most people are out enjoying there boats

thanks

Looks like a straight inboard that was used in salt water. My concern would be the stringers being infiltrated by water as well. The cracks appear to be stress related.Foredeck soft as well.I am thinking the whole boat is rotting away. You may want to have it surveyed or have some one that knows boats check it out. I would keep looking based on the pics you displayed.

It's just a little rot... nothing to be afraid of! :p

Nope -- run and run far. water in one of the three main wooden structures generally means water in all 3... I lucked out and had ONLY a rotten deck..
