I am not getting any from the ignition coil wire, I have tried several trouble shouting techniques I also had it tested at the autoparts store and they found it with in specs. I just replaced this coil 3 months ago with a mercruiser original one.

The biggest question is, what are we working on?

What troubleshooting techniques did you do? That way, everyone will know what you already did and know how to advise further.

Roll the eng till points are in closed position. Key on,open/close points by prying gently with a screwdriver. Any spark?Where? If good blue spark at spark plug, try rolling eng over on the starter, with dist cap off, observe spark coming fr coil.Same or similar spark.?Are points arcing nicely when they open/close?
Sometimes you may think points are adjusted right but actually theyre not. This simple test will tell you what is going on. If you cannot get consistent arcing at the points you have no power there or poss.a condenser prob.

Coils do not go bad very often. When the points are open is when the coil sends power to the distributer cap, when the points are closed the energy is lost to ground. The condensor is used to store power so it is readily avaliable at any time. The condensor can go bad and do many strange things.

I've been using mercruiser Manual #8 and been researching the heck out of this forum for possible Fixes.

I've reset the points. I've disconnected the tach, no go. I've also disconnected the purple and yellow purple wire and ran 12v directly and nothing.

That should do it! If no spark, (from the center wire of the coil to the block) check the voltage on the coil +, should be around 8 volts, and check the ground. The coil should give a spark every time the points open.

Re: I am no super frustrated with This thing

remove all wires from the coil, install jumper to + side and with another jumper connected to the - side ,scratch the end to a clean ground.should get some kind of spark.

remove the jumper from the - side and reconnect dist wire, remove black wire that goes to the points, and scratch it to a clean ground, should see some kind of spark.

use a meter or test light to verify the points are actually opening (no ohm reading) and closing(0 ohm reading) buy cranking the engine

replace condensor

Does the boat have a safety kill switch? Perhaps it has failed and grounding out the coil. Or maybe the lanyard is laying in the floor not attached?

Thanks to all your responses. I finally got it going, the points were not set right, gave it a few more try's and got i running on friday morning before our camping trip. Ran like a champ all weekend long. Started right up every time even after it sat all night. Thanks once again, i've learned a lot on this site.
