Hello everyone,

I have an old 6 h.p. evinrude and have no idea what year it is. It still runs perfect and starts every time. It's one of the models with the white covers and green foot and from the looks of it, it's over twenty years old.

It came with a john boat I got, but I already have another engine I'm going to use for it. It's very clean, and I think I may have got it for a steal, but can't find out the year. I couldn't find the numbers on it when I first looked, but will post them if I do.

If I can't, where can I find the numbers? And, could you give me an estimate of the year from the colors, or is that too vague?

Thank you for your help.

The model number would be ideal, second best being a pic, could you post one? The model number should be on a decal on the stern bracket, which is connected to the transom. If that has been removed for whatever reason, look for the welch plug, it is about the size of a quarter and is usually on the top rear of the motor. That too should contain the model number. Short of that, post a pic as stated and hopefully someone can identify it. Good luck.

Thanks for such quick help!

I found a metal plug with the number J3063748 on it. Hopefully that's it, but I'll get goin on the pics just in case.

Thanks again.

That is the serial number, most dealers could identify the year based on that, but I cannot.
