I am replacing the yoke and seal on my 79 pre-alpha. I have my manual, but don't

quite understand how deep I have to go. If I replace the yoke and seal using the same

shims and bearings, is it necessary for me to find a shim tool to check the upper

driven gear clearance? Thanks for the advice.

Nope, no need to reshim. You will be doing nothing to affect the shimming. Unless you leave a couple of your shims out.

2nd from right is the seal assy. when i replaced mine it came as an assy. so didn't need to press in the seal. i got my parts at the mercruiser store.

read the service manual real close when ya do the job.

agreed w/Don S. if nothing is changed but the seal, no shimming necessary.

fwiw. i replaced my brgs for being blue. this required shimming. as it turned out. i used the same amount of shim stack. but i did check it so it was not a guess as to that being what i needed for the stack..
