Describe how you filled it and we'll tell you.

It was drained then starting at the lowest oil plig I pumped gear oil in till it came out the middle plug, then replaced the middle plug and kept pumping and checking at the oil dipstick, set the dipstick screw loosely and rechecked after 24 hrs. and then added more to bring it to the dipstick oil level mark, but added to much, so I was going to remove some gear oil but thought I would find out if it would damage any seal or whatever being overfilled

If you pumped all the oil from the bottom plug, then that is the incorrect procedure. You need to fill from the middle plug. You may have a huge air bubble, how much oil did you use?

I put in 2 quarts before layup last fall, I left the guage screw loose so air may go out, and now this spring seeing it was not on the dipstick mark I added some to bring it up so now it is above the line on the dipstick and that is why I wonderded if that being the gear oil is too much, what would it hurt or should I remove some?

Have you run it yet on muffs? I would run it a bit to make sure there are no air bubbles and re-check. 2 quarts seems about right, I personally would drain some out so that it is right on the mark. A more knowledgeable person may have better advice.

If you put 2 quarts in it, you are fine. If over full, drain a little out.
with too much oil, there is no place for the gear lube to expand to and it can blow out the front seal into the bellows and make you think you have a leaky seal.

Next time fill the drive properly from the middle plug.
