I give up... what year is this?

I'm thinking of buying a speedboat with a 50 hp Mercury on it. Serial nr. on the lower unit says 9440305 but I can't find the year on any of the web pages people on this forum keep referring to. It seems as there are some letters missing in my serial though I know it's the complete serial. Can anyone help me? Appreciate any help.<br /><br />Sincerely, Kristian

It falls in the serial range 9420791 - 9452343 which is 1985, 3 cyl., 50 hp
