I have a 1976 and 1976 55HP Evinrudes. Are these both commercial engines?

Someone told me that all of Johnson/Evinrudes 55HP's from old to new are all commercial engines.

1977 55HP model is 55773D

Is this true?

It seems like its true because I have no oil pump, no tilt and trim , and the gear case looks bigger than what it should be. You look at a 40-50HP gear case and its a peanut compared to the lower units on my 76'-77' 55HP rudes.

Thanks,

No the 55s were completely different motors from their mid 1970s 40hp counterparts. The larger gearcase was a matter of design change - and it was indeed beefier. They were not necessarily commercial models, although I believe they did add a commercial version at some point - it had a pull starter on top and a funky cowling to accomodate it.
