I just bought a 76 15HP Chrysler that fires right up and runs like a top until I ease off the choke. As long as I keep it at half choke it will run fine, but when I take it off choke it acts like it dont get any gas and dies. The plugs look a little dirty and I'm gonna get some more tomorrow, but any other advice? Also, the guy I bought it from said he just replaced the water pump, but it just mists out the pee hole under the cowling but it sprays good out the wheep holes and the exhaust port on the foot of the motor... Is this enough? I ran it for a good 5 minutes and felt the back of the block where the plugs are and it was warm, but not HOT. Thanks for any advice.

I would have to assume it has a fixed high speed jet, right? It more than likely is partially blocked with dirt, gum, or crud. You need to clean the carburetor.

Sounds like you are running it out of the water on a hose. It is impossible to test a water pump that way. Put it in the lake for a test.

I do not have a lot of experience with Chrysler, but I do recommend that you start with replacing the plugs(make sure you have the right gap), clean and let the carburetor soak, and clean all of your fuel lines by replacing them or taking them off and blowing through them(I recommend replacing them because with the motors age, there may be hair line cracks in the fuel lines that you can't see. Also make sure that the carb. is on tight and there is no air leak. If you do not want to invest the money in new fuel lines, I recommend that you at least pull the fuel line off that goes to the carb. and pump the fuel primer to make sure your getting good fuel flow to your carb. It sounds to me that your motor is not getting enough fuel. If there is an A/F adjustment screw on the carb., you may want to loosen it a quarter of a turn(usually to the left to loosen) and see if that helps.

F_R is probably right.Clean the carb.
Some soaks will destroy the rubber in the needle/seat.
Make sure you don't have rubber inside the seat.
Also while your working> replace the fuel pump diaphram.
