I really don't know as much about the man as I should.. He was like all men flawed. His visions for the future, what we are still striving for. Unfortunately it seems that the tables are simply reversed. <br /><br />I hope they are not reincarnating him like they have Muhammad Ali. That man (Ali) was/is a discrase.<br /><br />JMHO

Re: I have a dream...

we are not talking about sainthood here Tylerin.<br />Dr. King was the most vocal leader of the civil<br />rights movement that pressured the gov't into<br />adopting the civil rights act of 1964, thus earning<br />him the prestigious Nobel peace price in that same<br />year. his non-violence approach to change was <br />something quite new in this area.<br />this accomplishment alone is worth noting as a<br />major advancement in our history.<br />"ignorance" of these facts or just plain ignoring<br />them is ludicrous unless you would prefer to go<br />back to the days where coloreds sat in the back<br />of the bus, couldn't eat in white restaraunts or<br />use white restrooms etc.<br />I believe that the thing that really counts in life<br />is RESULTS and you can't deny he helped accomplish<br />a great deal in this country, regardless of his<br />personal shortcomings or suspected motives.<br /><br /> http://usinfo.state.gov/usa/infousa/laws/majorlaw/civilr19.htm

Re: I have a dream...

I wonder if Dr. King's dream included "African Americans" in the White House, chosen by a Republican President as National Security Advisor and Secretary of State? How about the U.S. Supreme Court?<br /><br />Have Condolisa Rice and General Colin Powell been judged by the color of their skin or by the content of their character?<br /><br />There may be a bit to go yet, but in my lifetime I have seen defacto slavery finally going away. To Dr. King goes much of the credit.

I'm confused, at what point in life did a mans morals become irrelevant? I'm not ignorant of the facts, ALL the facts. I guess my point is I don't believe he deserves a day. I'm not a racist I just don't think King should be put up on a pedestal. Nor do I think Lincoln should take a back seat to him. I'd be a little nervous breaking down in some all black neighborhoods, but if a black man broke down in front of my house I'd know I'd lend a helping hand. But thats ignorant me!

You better bet that Condy Rice and Gen. Powell have been judged not only by the content of their character, but also by the color of their skin. These two are exceptional americans, and I have nothing but respect for them both. But, if they are not judged by the color of their skin, how come they were two of the first people interviewed during the whole college admission system thing a few months ago? To get the Nat. Security Advisor's opinion or the Sec. of State's opinion, heck no...they were getting the african-american point of view.

I have heard that quite a bit, the african-american community (or at least some of it) call him an "Uncle Tom" because he bows before the "man". Baloney!

Nobody who has read Colin Powell's book, "My American Journey" can believe that he is not "black enough", or can call him an "Uncle Tom".<br /><br />He is true to, and proud of his heritage.
