OK last year I replaced my voltage regulators on a 1996 200 Merc EFI, serial number OG406730 ( One regulator had a burnt yellow wire) I replaced both, with Quicksilver part 883072T ( the stock regulator was number 815279 5 )The new regs came with a extra black wire, I suppose it is a ground? I didn't hook it up, should I and if so what do I hook it to ? My tach still ocasionally reads erratic, could this be the reason? Did they send me the wrong regulators? Let me know what you think. Thanks

A bad stator can cause the tach to read whacky, and also, it can short the regulator (which would explain the burnt wire).<br />and yes, black is ground. It should have a round eye terminal fitting on it, for attaching to a mounting bolt? If not, you may have to crimp one on it, so you can attach it to thhe engine frame.

Re: I have a problem

Why didn't the old voltage regulators have the ground wire and do you think they are the right ones? Thanks
