Well i have a force 1996 75hp that I bought last feb. ui have taken it out every weekend since then! Never had any problems until this weekend. Here is the situation: Whenever i try to floor it it wont get on plane, it just bogs down and wants to die! Now, this problem doesnt happen everytime. Like yesterday morning it was fine for about half the day. Responded at WOT quickly, then about midday it started acting sluggish and the only way it would get on plane is if I SLAMMED down the throttle as fast as I could. If i pushed it down at a steady mid-rate pace it would bog down and want to die .....What could cause this???? Id like to fix this situation today with yalls help!!!

Re: I have a PROBLEM!!

Like I said, I have never had this problem b4. Now the last thing I did to this engine was unhook my gas tank from the hose and rotate my gas tank around to get to my arator bc it stopped working. Anyways, I did notice yesterday when trying to figure out what was wrong was the thing that your hose clips on to could rotate up and down, mabey this is an air leak?? I know that is is to spin in circles, but IDK about the freeplay up and down  Here is the pict. The aluminum piece that connects to the hose ( the shinny piece, not the brass looking piece). is what I am talking about:

You could be sucking air. I believe it would be more consistent but tighten all your gas lines anyway. What does your spark plugs look like? Normal, rich black, or lean white? If it is too rich it could be a needle valve in the carb or a float hung in the open position. If it is too lean and the plug looks white the fuel pump could be going bad or the carb could have dirt in it from the tank. Too lean is the quickest way to kill the motor. Try squeezing the primer bulb when it is trying to die - if it revives it is not getting enough fuel. It could be electrical such as a plug trying to miss under load, a plug wire leaking bad, or a CDM going bad. Leaking voltage can be seen in the dark. You can also feel it but 40,000 volts can really leave a headache. Lots of things it could be. Have you changed gas or oil mix. It could be a bad tank of gas. All of these are just guessing without more info. A good manual will help you go through the steps of eliminating one thing at a time.

I'd be concerned too about excessive up and down play in the fitting too, but it's hard to tell how much is excessive. You need to determine whether or not it's a fuel delivery related issue or spark related. Try eliminating fuel delivery first since it's probaly the easiest and least costly

A couple of things to check.

It would be helpful if you had one of those cheap see through inline fuel filters between the fuel pump and the carbs to get a visual indication of what's going on with the gas to the carbs.

When it's bogging down, take a look at the primer bulb on the fuel line. Is it sucking in and colapsed? If so, then there is a restriction between it and the tank. The quick connect fitting on the end of your gas line may have a spring loaded valve in it that may be partially clogged or not opening properly causing a restriction. Make sure the fitting seated properly.

If your primer bulb looks normal when it boggs, try pumping it while it's bogging to see if that makes a difference. If it does, then it may be a fuel pump problem.

The vertical movement in the fitting your fule hose hooks up to shouldn't be an issue. On the other end of the fitting is a hose or line that goes down to the bottom of the tank where the gas is picked up.

I would try some good carb cleaner first. It sound to me like maybe the mechanical parts of your carb are sticking. That's why it works when you quickly go to WOT and wants to hesitate or bog down when you're nice to it.

I read a lot about Sea Foam here on this forum and asked my boat shop about it. They highly recomended it. I used it on my last carb rebuild and it is pretty good stuff. It doesn't evporate as quickly as the the cheap aerosol can stuff so it's stays where it needs to work a lot longer.
