Hello guys, I have been reading hundreds of (very helpful) posts and see a lot of questions about engine parts exchange. <br /><br />My question is: Are Volvo 3.0L 140HP engines intercheangable with Mercs and OMCs? I have a 2000 Caravelle with a bad motor (cracked block) and was wondering if just the block could be swapped with a Merc or an OMC or maybe just swap the whole thing BUT, will it bolt directly to the outdrive? are the bell housing bolt patterns the same?<br /><br />Thanks for all your help in advance.

Hi arboater,<br /><br />The only 3.0L acctually made by volvo(penta) was a 6 cyl way back in the 70's. I believe your 3.0L is the GM 3.0L common to present day VP, Mercruiser & OMC. <br /><br />I can't think of another marinised 3.0L on the market. Anyone with different info please chime in.<br /><br />Aldo

Same longblock, different attachments. You'll have to swap a lot of parts if you get a complete engine. But it certainly is a possibility.

Thanks for your replies guys. <br /><br />It seems to be a very common 4cyl 3.0L. Since it is a GM, could I find an auto replacement of the block only? Maybe like a Geo Metro or any other GM 4 banger?

Nope..........<br />Not used in Autos, At All..........<br />All the 2.5l,+ 3.0l engines used in GM cars since the 70s are a Totally Different Engine.........

as bondo says it's a industrial use engine, made by gm to fit a lot of different applications.(marine use, as a generator, ive even seen it used to drive air compressors and pumps. <br />get a merc short block
