Ok, so I posted a few weeks ago about buying a boat and wondering where to start. Here is the link if you care to read, http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=294633
Anyway, bought the boat knowing that it was overheating and the previous owner thought it may have spun a bearing or something.
Well, 2 1/2 weeks later I am finally home from a business trip and broke out the muffs to see what I have to work with.
First thing I notice is it needs a tune-up desperately. The previous owner said it was winterized in Sept. just after the engine troubles, so a tune up is needed. Still, I played with it some. So I was able to get start her up and run it for a few seconds. It was missing some and idling rough but I think that's just because it needs the tune up and maybe some fresh gas.
First though, aside from the rough running, there were no sounds from the engine. No knocking, grinding, scraping, nothing. So, for now I will pretend all is well. I'll tune it up and leave it at that for now.
The second thing is I'm not getting good water circulation. After turning it over a few time I popped out the thermostat and can tell there is at least a little water getting there. But I am not seeing any water blowing out with the exhaust.
I figure the first place to check would be the impeller.
So, my question. Is there an online resource I can use to take apart that outboard and work on it? I downloaded the mercruiser service manual from this site, but nothing in there about the impeller replacement.
And as always, any other suggestions or things to look out for and check? I'll be happy to run out and get #'s off the block or things like that.
Thank you,
