I'm a newbie to iBoats and need some help. I hit a rock with my new to me but used 97 9.9 Yamaha and messed up the prop pretty well. I shut it off immediately and then restarted it. It started but the prop doesn't spin. Went back to the dock with my trolling motor. I took the prop off and the spindle spins freely in freely in F/N/R and makes a slight sound part way up the drive shaft. Apparently they don't use shear pins any more but it doesn't seem that I have a spun hub either. I'm afraid I may have done more damage to something higher. Can anyone give me some suggestions on where to start. I've ordered a new prop and have an owners manual but I'm would like to try to tackle it myself if I can'

So you can easily spin the drive shaft in F/N/R with the prop off?

If so I think something in the gear case maybe broke..

But I'm no pro; they will be able to tell ya for sure.

Re: I hit a rock

I did drop the lower unit and found that I snapped the drive shaft right at the pinion gear. So much for a hubbed prop. That obviously didn't help me this time. Ordered a new drive shaft.
