I just got a used outboard. Probably simple answer here.

I just bought a used 1993 4 hp Evinrude outboard. Really nice shape, and starts right up. I also have a 15hp Johnson, and the Johnson has a 'kill' button, to shut the engine down, but the Evinrude has no such button. I have been pulling the choke to stop the engine. Am I missing something here? Why no 'kill' switch? And is the choke the best (only) way to shut it down? Thanks for any thoughts.

I can't comment on the design of your particular motor but I have a 1961 5.5Hp motor with no kill switch and all I do is turn off the thottle when I want to kill it. Works fine.

When I throttle down all the way, it just idles, it doesn't stop the engine.
