I have spent almost a thousand dollars on getting a carb repaired and repaired and repaired. It keeps leaking and the shop can't seem to fix it. The float isn't seating right. Where can I get a new carb for it. Its a 1988 Force, 85hp. I need some help or i will have to drill a hole in it and let it sink to the bottom of the lake.

Does carb have a steel tipped or rubber tipped neddle? Does brass insert for needle have a hex head, screwdriver slot, or just round head thats looks like it cannot be removed? What manual and number of manual are you using?

Re: I NEED A NEW CARB???

Thaks for the replies, I am not sure of the make on the carb. I know the needle is red rubber and thats about it. I think its a flat head slot though. I don't have a manual I am using, its at the shop still and they are still jerking me around. On the tillistons for sale, are they for the 85 hp 1988 force? The mechanic told me they have to be off that motor for the carb to bolt up right.
Thank you

drozin, you have spent too much already.
if you want a new carb, they are cheap. about $130 dollars each, call a mercury dealer, give them the mod# & ser# from your outboard and they'll hook you up.
i bought one for a 1985 chysler force 50hp from a merc dealer for $129.

Re: I NEED A NEW CARB???

Never seen one with red tipped needle. There are 2 different carbs for this engine , early model and late model. One of the difference is the needle and seat. If you mix these parts, it will always flood. The early carb also has a float helper spring, when it is on correctly, it will look backward to normal tech, if spring is missing carb will always flood. If the carb is not broke, bent, all the tech needs is the correct
parts for the carb, and install them correctly. If they cant do this, would I trust them with a new 130.00 carb?
