Hey guys!

So I’m trying to buy my very first boat! I’m 24 for reference so budget is very important. I found what looks like a great deal! It’s a 2000 185 scout sportsfish with a 130 Yamaha motor (that they claim has low hours) and 2 Bimini tops and trailer for $3000.

Problem is they said both batteries are dead. I’m still learning about boats but knkw it’s important to see it turn over before buying.

run the motor, put it in both gears.. compression test it... make sure owner has title and registration for boat and trailer... buying boats and trailers without proper documentation causes headaches. if owner balks or doesnt have paperwork, run away fast

read the check list at the top of the forum

always get a sea trial

if the owner wont give a sea trial, offer much less than asking price.

if the paperwork isnt there, walk away.

A marine battery to start that outboard is under $150. If you wanna' buy the batt to start the thing for a sea trial, it would sure beat finding out the seller wouldn't do it because the outboard won't start ... after you spend $3k on the boat ;)

Price feels a touch high, even if it works as it's supposed to.

Welcome aboard.
