I NEED HELP 1953 Evinrude Super Fastwin 15hp

I can't get my motor to stay running. I had it going a few times and even took it out a few times w/o a problem. But then it would not start back up again. I cleaned the carb and noticed the cork gasket thing around the high speed jet was shot. the motor started again for me last week but only would stay running when the choke was pulled out. I don't know anything about motors and i need help! If anyone can direct me to a carb rebuild kit for this motor that would be awsome. The motor is in great shape and i would love to get it running good. It breaks my heart to see this antique dying. I want to use this motor on my 14' v bottom. Help a Coastie out PLEASE!

If you have a NAPA parts store in your area have them look in there sierra parts book. They should have the kit.

the carb kit is Sierra # 18-7043 but this does not contain the Float, do not know # for the float, or if it is even available.

Or better yet, support our host and get your carb kit here at iboats. As said it does not contain a float. The new ethanol-proof float is part number 396514, you have to get it from an Evinrude dealer.

Having said all that, don't be jumping to conclusions. I'm not saying you don't have a carburetor problem, but it is very probable that it is something else. The something else is the notorious cracked coils. You are totally wasting your time and money if you don't check them first.

Pulling the choke kicks the throttle linkage open, which is why it keeps the motor sort of running. It is also why it fools you into thinking fuel problem.

I recently had one of the Mk's on base look at the motor and the coils are in good shape.
