I need help fellow Houston!!!!Tool needed

I have been trying for weeks to find a puller to remove the bearing housing out of my 1988 48hp Johnson lower unit. It is the one that has long hook type things on it not threaded. Does anyone in the Houston area have one I can borrow for cash or beer. Cy Fair Marine wants to charge me 50.00 to just pull it out! Is that too much $$? Thanks -Jason-

Houston, eh? So has your motor ever been run in salt water? You may decide the $50 was a bargain before you are through.

Anyway, do you have any other sort of a slide hammer puller? Perhaps you can rent one. You can fashion a hook adapter by bending a hook on the end of a piece of all-thread rod.

The boat has only been in salt water once. There is no salt corrosion anywhere on the boat so it "should" come out ok.
