I need a little electric sander that has a point on the tip of the head for sanding in some very tight areas. I know they used to advertise these, what are they called? Their shape is kinda like that of a triangle with one of the points facing forward. Anyone know what this is?

WITF here is one option:
Log onto www.mcmaster.com (McMaster Carr's website)
search under:
4711A51
or
Electric Sander (Triangular Detail)
Looks the price (Bosch) is about $120+ pads...you're call if thats within your budget. You might find something cheaper at Home depot.
Anyhow, you can order this on-line and you will probably have it within 2-3 days delivered to any business address you choose. Very reliable supplier.
Good luck

I use those disposable nail files. You know, the ones that are white on one side and brown on the other. They work great for getting in corners, and you can cut them with a knife to a sharp point.

I believe they marketed that as a Mouse Sander at least Black and Decker did.

Yes, they were/are sold as a mouse sander. I have one and although they do fit in tight places, it really can't sand very well, in my opinion. I'm comparing it to a random orbit.

There's a few used ones on ebay, $15-$20. Search "sander detail".

Yes, we have one. Actually it's the wife's. It works ok for what it was designed for. I was not aware they quit making them. Maybe that explains why they have so much sand paper to fit them at my local BigLots store. Maybe we should stock up.

Anyway witf...
There are better ones out there and like BoatBuoy said, they're called detail sanders.

I'm looking at a few on Ebay. Is Grizzly a good name? They have a palm orbital detail sander for 22.50. Is it pretty good?

Sounds like a made in china special and don't forget...you usually get what you pay for. My first choice is usually Dewalt but Bosch, Black and Decker, Makita, Craftsman (to name a few)...these are brands that are likely to go more of the distance.
You might want to see if any of these show up under and ebay search.
Good luck.

I've never used their products but they mostly make and sell big wood shop machinery. I believe they are an American company. They have offices in Taiwan. I am not sure where their manufacturing is.

I gotta admit, that does seem cheap.

A Festool (fancy, expensive, German "boutique" tools) detail sander is about $200
Delta, about $140
I don't see one for DeWalt
Makita sells a triangle base for their finishing sander as an accessory.
Bosch makes a nice kit for around $120
B&D Mouse $40-$50
Craftsman $40
