I have a Evinrude 1989 90hp VRO Cross Flow V4. I was riding on the lake today at full trottle. I had this warning alarm come on from the Trottle box. It was one long sound that did not stop, (No breaks in the sound. Just one long sound)until I killed the engine. I then thought maybe there was low oil. I Pumped the oil primer and tried to crank the engine, when you turn the key, you always get this one alarm sound, then it turns off. However, it does not turn off anymore and when I proceed to crank the engine, the alarm still stays on. So! what is the cause? a bad switch, maybe something more serious? I do know that when I got home and turn the key one notch, the alarm stayed on and did not shut off. I am affraid to even try to use the boat until I can figure out what the problem might be. Any imput would be helpfull.

The various warnings for the V/4 engines are:
1 - Constant steady beep = Overheating.
2 - Beep every 20 seconds = Oil level down to 1/4.
3 - Beep every other second = VRO failure, Air in oil line, oil restriction, No oil.

Check your connections and the temperature sender unit thing. My brain went blank. I guess there is a better word for it.

Mr. Bear, in response, when I ground out the temp senser for both cylinders. Do I unplug each one, then run a jumper from the tip to the motor block to make sure that the alarm is okay? cause when I turn over the key, the high temp alarm continues to run even before I crank the motor.
I do thank you for your response and help.
