hey fellas,
I'm new to boating, but not new to two strokes, I used to rebuild my dirt bike when I rode those. I'm trying to find some websites that might show me the mechanical aspects of an outboard motor. Basically, a simplified schematic of how an outboard works. I have the engine mentioned above on a 1966 Glaston Aqua Lift, and it is having a couple of little issues that I'm trying to figure out. It was having fuel delivery issues, but after changing fuel lines, filter and new gas tank, that seems to be resolved. Sunday when I took it out it seemed to slip out of gear on a couple of occasions. So I would put it in reverse wait a second and then drop it back into forward and it would seem to stay. Also, it seems that the throttle doesn't do anything until the last third of it's travel. Is that normal? And if not, what do you suppose the remedy will be? Also, does anyone know what after market controls would work with this model johnson? Trying to figure out the principles of the components so I can start understand how to work on them. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Welcome to IBoats Forum!

A good place to look at your motor schematic, and get parts numbers is at

It is highly recommended that you get a OMC manual for your motor. You shouldn't need a parts manual. You can usually find one on ebay.

There are many boaters here with experience, and there are some great stickys to look at that cover a wide range of subjects.
If you don't get a answer to a question right away, someone will along shortly.
